A mini greenhouse for your seedlings

If you want to have beautiful vegetable and herb plants to put in-ground or in a pot when the warm weather returns, there’s nothing better than planting seedlings indoors during the spring. In addition to being easy and fun, seedlings are an inexpensive way to eat healthy and to continuously have fresh food on hand. To be successful with your seedlings, some rules need to be followed: plenty of light, constant warmth, and good watering. To ensure success with your seedlings, indoor mini greenhouses are the way to go.

Greenhouse growing has been proven to work for a while now. Unfortunately, not everyone has the necessary space to install their own greenhouse on their property. However, did you know that there are several indoor mini greenhouses that don’t take up much space, and that allow you to recreate the same conditions as a traditional greenhouse but on a smaller scale? We have several models, as well as all the necessary tools for the realization of your seedlings in store.

Benefits of sowing in a greenhouse:

  • Constant warmth
  • Controlled humidity level
  • Easier and less frequent irrigation with self-irrigating models

You should always place your greenhouse in a well-lit area so that your seedlings can benefit from the maximum amount of sunlight possible for their growth. Indeed, seedlings need about 12 to 14 hours of light per day to be healthy. Adding a fluorescent artificial lightning is often necessary for proper plant growth. Even south-facing windows do not offer this daily amount of light, especially in the middle of a Quebec March!

To further maximize your chances of success, place your greenhouses on a heat mat for the first few days of your seedlings’ growth. The thermal mat increases the heat of the soil by a few degrees, which increases the germination speed of the seeds. This will save you a few extra days; ideal if you are a little behind on your planting!
