Seeds can be started indoors 6 to 8 weeks earlier. Sow the seeds on the surface of the soilless growing medium. After germination, grow in a bright, daylight location at 65°F (18°C), then harden off and transplant in late May. In areas with a longer growing season, seeds can be started directly outdoors.
Keep plants evenly watered throughout the growing season, then harvest whenever the roots reach a diameter of 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 in) – roots harvested in fall have superior flavor and retain the best.
