Natural, untreated and GMO-free seeds. Open pollinated seeds. This hardy variety has good flavor and a high yield.

Do not sow too early, as cold-sown plants tend to flower prematurely (bolting).

EXPLAIN: Each Swiss chard seed is actually a group of seeds that will produce multiple seedlings. Thin them gradually to 12 in. (30 cm) apart to grow mature plants or 2 in. (5 cm) apart to grow young leaves. Thin out seedlings in cells at the rate of one plant per cell after transplanting.

PLANT: Harden off seedlings grown indoors by gradually acclimating them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Plant them at 12 in (30 cm) intervals in rows 15 to 18 in (38 to 45 cm) apart if you want to harvest broad leaves, or at 2 in (5 cm) intervals in rows spaced 8 in (20 cm) if your goal is to pick young leaves.

WATER: Plants develop deep roots and can survive long periods of drought without watering. However, they will produce more leaves with thorough watering each week during the summer to keep the soil moist. Plants grown in containers need regular watering.
