Brussels Sprouts ‘Long Island’ seeds – Heirloom open-pollinated – annual type – Ecocert Canada certified organic.

Heirloom variety from the 1890s. Very abundant, produces 50-100 dark green Brussels sprouts (florets) for an extended time. Compact plants produce sturdy spikes with edible florets that ripen from the bottom up and take on a sweeter taste after frost. A slow-growing, long-lived vegetable that requires a regular supply of water, Brussels sprouts also survive frosts and light snowfall.

Away from: Potato, tomato, pepper, eggplant, mustard.
Seeding: Direct seed as soon as the soil can be worked. It can be started inside 4 to 6 weeks. before the planting date.
Harvest: Sprout formation begins at the bottom of the stem. When they reach thumb size, pinch the tops to encourage uniform top shoots. Harvest the bottom of the stem when it is 1 to 1.15 inches in diameter.
Storage: Store at 1-2°C at 95% humidity for 3-5 weeks. Can also be frozen.
