We owe its selection to Dame Marie-Alice Laflamme Gosselin of Dorchester County, who was still growing her famous cucumbers at the age of 90. After soaking the seeds overnight in milk, our skilled gardener planted the seeds of “her good big cucumbers” on a mound of very rich earth on June 13th on Saint-Antoine. This late sowing does not delay fruit production in any way, since the plant is very vigorous. Fruits grow large, but are best small. Their dark, leathery skin is bitter and therefore not eaten. However, the juicy and crunchy flesh is very easy to digest and its excellent taste is reminiscent of English greenhouse cucumbers.
