Climbing yellow bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris) – offered by Semences WH Perron
The climbing yellow bean is a vigorous variety and ideal for optimizing vertical space thanks to its growth on trellises or stakes. With its long, yellow, tender and tasty pods, this bean offers a continuous and abundant production throughout the season. Although it takes a little longer to grow than dwarf beans, it more than compensates with its exceptional yield. Suitable for vegetable gardens and small areas, it transforms vertical structures into real gourmet walls.
Plant height : Up to 3 m with stake
Quantity per pack : 50 seeds
Companion plants : Artichoke, eggplant, Swiss chard, marjoram, tomato, potato, radish, rosemary
Enemy plants : Garlic, beetroot, kohlrabi, chives, shallot, fennel, onion, parsley, leek
Cultivation method:
Sow directly in the open ground after the last frosts, when the soil is well warmed (at least 16 °C). Plant the seeds at a depth of 2 to 3 cm, spacing the plants 20 cm apart. Once germinated, thin out to 4 plants per stake to promote good air circulation. The stakes must be approximately 3 meters to allow the bean to climb and develop fully.
Prepare a loose, well-drained soil, enriched with compost or organic matter. This bean prefers a sunny exposure and a slightly acidic to neutral soil. Water regularly, especially during the flowering period, to encourage a continuous production of crisp, tasty pods. Harvest pods young and tender for best eating quality.
The climbing yellow bean is a perfect choice for gardeners looking to maximize growing space while enjoying a bountiful and delicious harvest. Its hardiness and versatility make it a must-have for lovers of productive and aesthetic vegetable gardens.
