Cultivation method:
Sow striped heirloom tomato seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected frost. Maintain a temperature of 70 to 75 degrees F (21 to 24 degrees C) to promote rapid germination in 5 to 10 days. Prick out seedlings when they are 4 inches (10 cm) tall, then gradually acclimate them before transplanting them to the ground after the last frost.
Plant young plants in rich, well-drained soil that is enriched with organic matter. Leave a spacing of 60 to 90 cm between plants to encourage their development. Install a sturdy stake or cage to support the indeterminate shape of this variety and prevent branches from breaking under the weight of the fruit.
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer high in potassium to stimulate fruit production. Harvest tomatoes when they reach full striped color and a slightly firm texture.
With its rich flavor and versatility in the kitchen, the striped heirloom tomato is ideal for keen gardeners looking to grow a traditional, aesthetically pleasing variety that brings a touch of history and flavor to every harvest.
