Shelling peas (Pisum sativum) – offered by Seed Company WH Perron
Shelling peas are an early and versatile variety, perfect for gardeners looking for bountiful early and late season harvests. Each plant produces 1-2 pods per node, each containing 7-8 delicious peas. With their mildew tolerance and preference for cool climates, these peas are suitable for spring and fall planting, ensuring tasty harvests in both spring and fall.
Spread : 10 to 15 cm
Plant height : 45 to 60 cm
Quantity per packet : 100 seeds
Companion plants : Carrot, cucumber, lettuce, radish, spinach
Enemy plants : Garlic, onion, pepper
Cultivation method:
Sow shelling pea seeds directly into well-drained, slightly sandy soil as soon as the soil is workable in spring. Plant the seeds 2 to 3 cm deep and space the plants 5 to 8 cm apart in the row. For a fall harvest, sow a second time in August, taking advantage of the cool late-season temperatures.
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during flowering and pod development. Shelling peas reach maturity about 53 days after sowing. Harvest pods when they are well filled, but before they become hard, to enjoy their tender texture and sweet flavor.
Shelling peas are a great option to enrich your vegetable garden with a classic, nutritious and easy-to-grow vegetable, providing tasty harvests every season.
