Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) – proposed by the Seed Company WH Perron

Rosemary is a perennial shrub valued for its woody stems and evergreen, aromatic leaves. Its narrow leaves, dark green on top and white underneath, give off a unique, pungent scent. Versatile, it is used in cooking to flavor meats, sauces and marinades, but also for its medicinal and aromatic properties. This hardy plant is a must-have for gardeners looking for intense flavors and low maintenance requirements.

Spread : 90 to 150 cm
Plant height : 90 to 150 cm
Quantity per packet : 100 seeds
Companion plants : Broccoli, carrot, cabbage, cauliflower, bean, marjoram, turnip, oregano, parsley, sage
Enemy plants : Cucumber, gherkin, corn

Cultivation method:

Sow rosemary seeds indoors 10 to 12 weeks before the last frost. Use a well-drained potting mix and press the seeds lightly into the surface without covering them. Maintain a constant temperature of 21 to 24°C for germination, which can take up to 21 days. Prick out the seedlings into individual pots when they are 5cm tall, then acclimatise them before transplanting them into the open ground after the last frost.

Rosemary prefers well-drained, slightly sandy soil, with full sun exposure. Space plants 3 to 6 feet apart to allow them to flourish. Once established, this plant tolerates drought and requires little watering. Prune lightly in spring to encourage compact growth and remove spent flowers to prolong the production of aromatic leaves.

Ideal for attracting pollinators, rosemary will enrich your garden with its captivating fragrance and hardiness. It will also bring a touch of flavor and aroma to your dishes, while requiring little maintenance.
