Rapini (Brassica rapa var. ruvo) – offered by Semencier WH Perron

Rapini, also known as broccoli rabe, is a leafy green vegetable with a distinctly bitter taste that’s perfect for adding a Mediterranean touch to your dishes. With its entirely edible stems, leaves, and flower buds, it offers remarkable culinary versatility. Easy to grow and fast-growing, it’s perfect for urban gardens or allotments. Used in stir-fries, salads, and pasta dishes, rapini is a must-have ingredient for enriching your meals with unique flavors.

Spread : 20 to 30 cm
Plant height : 45 to 60 cm
Quantity per packet : 200 seeds
Companion plants : Lettuce, spinach, beetroot
Enemy plants : Cabbage, beans, tomatoes

Cultivation method:

Sow rapini seeds directly into the ground as soon as the soil can be worked in spring or late summer for a fall harvest. Plant seeds 1 to 2 cm deep, spacing them 5 to 10 cm apart in the row. Thin the plants to 20 cm once they have emerged to allow them to develop well.

Choose well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter and has sun or partial shade. Rapini tolerates cool climates and grows quickly, making it ideal for successive harvests. Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, which keeps the leaves and stems tender.

Harvest young shoots and flower buds before the flowers open for optimal taste. Rapini is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, providing a healthy and delicious alternative to diversify your diet.
