Green headed lettuce ( Lactuca sativa) – proposed by the Seed Company WH Perron
Green head lettuce is a generous variety that produces large, crisp, refreshing heads that are perfect for summer salads. Its heat tolerance and disease resistance make it a reliable crop for both home and experienced gardeners. Adapted to a variety of soil types, this lettuce grows quickly and provides a bountiful, quality harvest all season long.
Spread : 25 to 30 cm
Plant height : 20 to 30 cm
Quantity per packet : 150 seeds
Companion plants : Garlic, artichoke, beetroot, chervil, curly endive, cabbage, kohlrabi, cucumber, shallot, strawberry, onion, turnip, parsnip, peas, radish, salsify
Enemy plants : Celery, celeriac, parsley
Cultivation method:
Sow head lettuce seeds directly in the garden as soon as the soil is workable, or start seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. Plant 1/4 inch deep and space rows 10 to 12 inches apart. Lettuce prefers rich, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade.
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture and prevent lettuce from becoming bitter. Thin young plants to about 20 cm to allow for optimal head growth. Harvest lettuce when fully mature, about 50 to 70 days after sowing, to enjoy its crisp texture and fresh taste.
Robust and productive, green headed lettuce fits perfectly into a diversified vegetable garden, offering regular and tasty harvests throughout the summer season.
