Cultivated arugula ( Eruca vesicaria) – proposed by the Seed Company WH Perron
Arugula, or rocket, is an aromatic plant with dark green, finely serrated leaves, known for its distinctive peppery taste reminiscent of watercress and nuts. Ideal for enriching salads, sandwiches and lightly cooked dishes, this variety is easy to grow in the ground or in a planter. It adapts perfectly to amateur and urban gardeners, offering a quick and tasty harvest all year round.
Spread : 15 to 20 cm
Plant height : 20 to 30 cm
Quantity per packet : 200 seeds
Companion plants : Lettuce, spinach, carrot
Enemy plants : Cabbage, radish, beetroot
Cultivation method:
Sow arugula seeds directly in the ground or in a planter in spring or fall when the soil is well-drained and slightly moist. Plant the seeds 0.5 cm deep, spacing the plants 10 to 15 cm apart in the row and the rows 20 cm apart. This variety grows quickly and prefers exposure to full sun or partial shade.
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture and obtain tender leaves with optimal flavor. To prolong your harvest, sow small quantities every two weeks. Harvest young leaves as soon as they reach 5 to 10 cm for a mild and slightly peppery flavor.
Rich in vitamins and minerals, cultivated arugula adds a spicy and nutritious touch to your dishes, while easily integrating into small spaces or urban vegetable gardens.
