'Nero di Milano' zucchini thrive in full sun and rich, deep, well-drained soil with an optimum pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Enrich the soil with compost before planting to ensure vigorous growth.
Sow directly outdoors from late May to mid-June, placing seeds 1" (2.5 cm) deep in mounds 8' (2.4 m) apart. Plant 4-6 seeds per mound, then reduce to 3 plants per mound after germination. For an early harvest, start indoors about 3 weeks before the last expected frost date.
Be sure to water regularly and protect young plants from pests. Harvest fruits between 6 and 8 inches long for optimal taste and perfect texture.
