Cultivation method:
Marina di Chioggia squash thrive in warm weather and require rich, well-drained organic soil with an ideal pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Before planting, enrich the soil with plenty of compost to ensure optimal growth.
Sow directly outdoors between late May and mid-June, 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep. Form hills 8 feet (2.4 m) apart, sowing 4 to 6 seeds per hill. After germination, thin to 3 plants per hill.
If starting seeds indoors, start them 3 weeks before the last expected frost date. Use biodegradable pots to minimize root stress when transplanting. Provide full sun exposure and maintain regular soil moisture.
