Squash 'Gialla di Napoli' (Cucurbita moschata) – Offered by Weston Seeds
The 'Gialla di Napoli' squash is an impressive variety, often compared to butternut squash, but with a larger size and an even more refined flavor. Its gray-green exterior hides a bright orange flesh, soft and delicately sweet, ideal for many culinary preparations. Unlike some squashes that are too watery, it offers a dense and melting texture, perfect for soups, purées and roast dishes.
With an average weight ranging from 15 to 30 lb (7 to 14 kg), this squash is a real treasure in the vegetable garden, offering abundant harvests and excellent storage throughout the winter.
Characteristics of the variety

Flesh : Bright orange, firm and sweet
Average weight : 15 to 30 lbs (7 to 14 kg)

Conservation : Excellent, several months after harvest
Exposure : Full sun
Plant spacing : 90 to 120 cm (36 to 48 inches)
Cultivation method:
To obtain a bountiful harvest and well-developed fruits, it is advisable to start seedlings indoors 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost, then transplant the young plants when night temperatures are above 10°C (50°F).
Direct sowing in open ground is possible after the last frost, when the soil is well warmed. Plant the seeds at a depth of 2.5 cm (1 inch) and space the plants 90 to 120 cm (36 to 48 inches) apart to allow them to spread freely.
A rich, well-drained soil, amended with compost, will promote optimum growth. Watering should be regular but moderate, avoiding excessive moisture on the leaves to prevent disease.
Harvest the fruits when they reach full maturity and their skin becomes hard. Let them dry in the sun for a few days before storing them in a cool, dry place for long-term preservation.
