Scarole 'Cornetto di Bordeaux' (Cichorium endivia), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

scarole 'Cornetto di Bordeaux' is a classic and charming French variety, renowned for its cold tolerance and large heads with wavy leaves. The central part of the heads is often curled, offering a tender texture and a slightly bitter flavor, ideal for salads or hot dishes.

Days to maturity : 40 to 70 days
Height : 8 to 10 inches

Sowing : Indoor or direct sowing, in spring, summer or autumn
Exposure : Full sun

Cultivation method:

Sow seeds directly outdoors in June, 6mm (1/4") deep in rows 60cm (24") apart. Once the plants have emerged, thin them to 20cm (8") in the row to allow the heads to fully develop.

For more tender leaves and to reduce bitterness, tie the large outer leaves around the core about 7 to 10 days before harvest. Make sure the outer leaves are dry when doing this to avoid any risk of mold. Water regularly to maintain uniform growth.

A refined and versatile escarole!

'Escarole Cornetto di Bordeaux' is ideal for gardeners looking for a rustic and tasty variety. Perfect for fresh or lightly braised salads, it is a wonderful addition to gourmet dishes. An essential variety to extend your seasonal harvests!
