'Uchiki Kuri' squash is a Japanese Hubbard variety, prized for its reddish-orange skin and delicious cream-coloured flesh. Firm but not stringy, it is very popular in Japanese and Thai cuisine. The robust, productive plants adapt well to our climate and can produce three or more fruits per plant. Each fruit weighs around 1.5 kg, making Uchiki Kuri an ideal choice for lovers of tasty and versatile squash.

Cultivation method:
Sow directly into the ground when the soil is warm, at a minimum temperature of 16°C, or start indoors about 4 weeks before the last frost date. Plant 2.5cm deep and space plants 1.5-2m apart to allow them to spread out.
'Uchiki Kuri' squash prefers rich, well-drained soil and full sun. Enrich the soil with compost or well-rotted manure for vigorous plants. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, to ensure optimum growth and quality fruit.
Harvest the fruit when its skin turns bright orange and hard. It can be stored in a cool, dry place for extended storage. Versatile and tasty, the 'Uchiki Kuri' squash is perfect for soups, purées, gratins or desserts, and will add a touch of colour and flavour to your dishes.
