Cultivation method:
Sow directly in the garden after the last frost, when the soil is well warmed, or start seeds indoors 3 to 4 weeks before transplanting. Plant seeds 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep and space plants 3 to 5 feet (1.5 m) apart.
Choose rich, well-drained soil, incorporating compost or well-rotted manure before planting. Water regularly to maintain constant humidity, but avoid excess water which could encourage disease.
Harvest the fruits when their skin is hard and dark beige in color. Store them in a cool, dry place to extend their shelf life.
