Sow directly into the ground in spring, as soon as the soil has warmed and the risk of frost has passed. You can also start sowing indoors about 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost date, maintaining a constant temperature of 20 °C. Then transplant the plants into the garden, spacing them 30 to 60 cm apart to allow good air circulation.
Sage prefers well-drained, slightly chalky soils and a location in full sun. Water sparingly to avoid excessive moisture, as its roots fear excess water. Lightly prune the plants after flowering to encourage growth and maintain their compact shape.
A culinary treasure and an ally for the garden!
In addition to being an indispensable herb in many recipes, bigleaf sage is also an excellent companion plant. It helps to keep away harmful insects and attracts bees, thus promoting the pollination of surrounding crops. Its dual use, both decorative and culinary, makes it a must-have in aromatic and vegetable gardens.
