Plant height : 40 cm
Spread : 30 cm
Formulation : Untreated
Companion plants : Broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cucumber, gherkin, turnip
Enemy plants : Carrot, parsnip, parsley
Cultivation method:
Indoors : Sow directly into 30cm containers in April. Place pots in sun and warmth, then acclimatise outdoors in May.
Outdoors : Sow in open ground at the end of May. Seeds germinate slowly, between 2 and 4 weeks.
Use a well-drained, porous potting soil to avoid overwatering If your outdoor soil is compacted, add sand and potting soil Amend with compost or a mixture of manure and seaweed when planting Draw furrows of 1 cm deep, spaced 20 cm apart Sow one seed every 5 cm, cover with soil, tamp down and water Thin out when plants have 2-3 leaves to space plants 15-20 cm apart
Avoid transplanting young plants, as their fragile roots do not tolerate this stress well. Water when the soil is dry to prevent premature seeding.
Harvest leaves as needed They are at their most flavorful during flowering Leaves can be dried or frozen Seeds and flowers are also edible To harvest seeds, wait until the umbels turn brown and rub them in your hands to drop them into a paper bag
Add 'Fernleaf' dill to your garden or balcony to enjoy its delicate flavor and ease of growing.
