Sow seeds indoors 5 to 6 weeks before the last expected frost date. Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours before sowing to encourage germination. Maintain a constant temperature of 70 to 75 degrees F (21 to 24 degrees C) for successful germination in 7 to 14 days. Transplant seedlings into well-drained, organically rich soil after frost has passed.

Plant cannas in full sun to maximize flowering and growth. They tolerate humidity well, making them suitable for areas near water or moderately moist soil. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
