Cultivation method:

Okra 'Lady Finger' thrives in warm, well-drained soil. For best germination, soak seeds in water overnight before sowing.

Sow directly outdoors in a sunny location from late May to early June, when all danger of frost has passed. Plant seeds 1/2 to 3/4 inch (1.25 to 2 cm) deep and space them 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart in rows 36 inches (90 cm) apart. Once seeds have germinated (14 to 21 days), thin the seedlings to 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm) apart.

To save time, start your seedlings indoors 5 weeks before transplanting, then transplant outdoors after the last frost. Make sure the soil is well warmed, as this is imperative for germination and growth.

Pods mature quickly, often 3-4 days after flowering. Harvest regularly for optimum quality and to encourage continued production.
