Cultivation method:
The 'Tortarello Barese' cucumber prefers a well-drained, sandy loam soil enriched with compost or well-rotted manure. Wait until the soil reaches a minimum temperature of 18°C (66°F) before planting, as cooler soils may slow germination or cause seed rot.
Form mounds of soil about 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) high and 12-24 inches (30-60 cm) in diameter. Space the mounds about 4 feet (120 cm) apart. Sow 6-8 seeds per mound at a depth of 3/4 inch (2 cm). Once the seedlings have germinated, thin to 3-4 plants per mound. If you are short on space, these cucumbers can also be grown on vertical trellises.
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during hot, dry spells, as too little water can cause the fruit to become bitter. Harvest cucumbers when they are still young and tender, carefully cutting them from the vine with a sharp knife to avoid damaging the plant.
Why choose it?
'Tortarello Barese' is distinguished by its mild flavour and crunchy texture , in addition to its unique appearance that makes it as attractive as it is tasty. Ideal for lovers of authentic Italian vegetables and for gardeners looking to grow an original and delicious variety.
