Cultivation method:
Direct sow seeds in well-drained soil from mid-spring, once the ground is workable. Plant seeds 1/2 to 3/4 inch (1 to 2 cm) deep and space them 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart in rows 18 inches (45 cm) apart. For a continuous harvest, repeat sowing every two weeks until early summer.
Gradually thin the seedlings to 4 inches (10 cm) apart, harvesting the smaller leaves for use as baby greens. Harvest the outer leaves by cutting them off at the base of the stem, while leaving the central leaves to ensure continued regrowth.
Rainbow chard prefers a soil pH of 6.5 to 7.5 and consistent moisture. Water regularly for optimal growth, especially during dry spells, and enrich the soil with compost if necessary.
