Cultivation method:
Sow seeds indoors about 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected frost date. Plant seeds in a light, well-drained soil mix 1/4 inch (6 mm) deep and maintain a constant temperature of 65 to 70 °F (18 to 21 °C) during germination, which usually takes 7 to 10 days.
When seedlings are about 4 inches (10 cm) tall, transplant them into individual pots or into the garden, spacing each plant 12 to 14 inches (30 to 35 cm) apart. Transplant outdoors when all danger of frost has passed and nighttime temperatures remain above 50°F (10°C).
'Big Oxheart Cuor di Bue' cabbage prefers fertile, well-drained soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. Maintain regular watering to encourage uniform growth and prevent heads from cracking. Apply a thin layer of mulch around the plants to conserve moisture and reduce weeds.
