Cultivation method:
Direct sow beet seeds in well-drained, well-worked soil in full sun or light shade after all danger of frost has passed. This variety prefers a soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0. If your soil is more acidic, adjust it by adding garden lime as recommended.
Plant seeds 1/2 inch (1.5 cm) deep in rows 12 inches (30 cm) apart. After sowing, lightly tamp the soil and maintain consistent moisture. Seedlings will germinate in 14 to 21 days.
Once the seedlings are 1 to 2 inches (2 to 5 cm) tall, thin them to leave 3 to 4 inches (7 to 10 cm) of space between each plant to allow for proper root development. The thinned young leaves can be used as baby greens in salads.
Water regularly to prevent roots from becoming fibrous and harvest when roots reach about 3 inches (7.5 cm) in diameter for optimum flavor.
