Basil Greek Globe, (Ocimum basilicum), offered by Weston Seeds

Sicilian Basil (Dwarf) , also known as Fine Verde , is a compact heirloom variety, ideal for borders, patios and containers. With its small, glossy green leaves that are highly aromatic, this basil has a slightly spicy and tangy flavour. Resistant to summer heat, it is extremely bushy and productive, forming attractive, tight mounds that are perfect for decorative and culinary use.

Life cycle : Annual
Plant height : 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 inches)
Spacing between plants : 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 inches)
Exposure : Full sun
Sowing : Indoor or direct sowing
Quantity per pack : 1000 to 1500 untreated seeds

Cultivation method:

For direct sowing, wait until late May, after all risk of frost has passed. Sow seeds outdoors and re-sow every two weeks through August to prolong the harvest. For indoor starts, sow seeds a few weeks before the last expected frost date, then transplant seedlings once outdoor temperatures are stable.

Sicilian basil prefers well-drained soil and full sun exposure. It can also be grown indoors on a sunny windowsill or under artificial lights during the winter. Water regularly to keep the soil slightly moist. Regularly prune the leaves and flower clusters to encourage dense growth and prolong the harvest.

Sicilian basil (dwarf) is ideal for gardeners looking for an easy-to-grow and aesthetically pleasing herb. Its ability to withstand heat, combined with its unique flavor and strong aroma, make it a must-have for Mediterranean recipes and decorative plantings.
