Cultivation method:

Start seeds indoors about 10 weeks before the last expected frost date. Soak seeds in water overnight before sowing to encourage rapid germination. Sow seeds 1/4" (6 mm) deep in rich potting soil and maintain a temperature of 80°F (27°C). After germination, continue to grow seedlings at a slightly lower temperature of 72°F (23°C).

Harden off plants gradually before transplanting outdoors after all risk of frost. Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Plant plants 60 cm (24") apart in rows 90 cm (36") apart. Water regularly and apply a low-nitrogen fertilizer to support fruit growth.

About 3 to 4 weeks before the first expected frost, pinch off new flowers to allow the plant to focus its energy on ripening existing fruit. Harvest ripe fruit when it is shiny and deep purple, and its surface does not bounce back when lightly pressed.
