Cultivation method:
For direct sowing, wait until all danger of frost has passed, then sow seeds directly outdoors. Plants will flower within 6 to 8 weeks of sowing. To transplant, start seeds indoors in early April. Lightly press seeds into the soil without covering them, as they need light to germinate. Maintain a temperature of 20°C (70°F) to promote rapid germination in 5 to 10 days.
Transplant hardened-off plants outdoors in late May, spacing them 10 to 14 inches (25 to 35 cm) apart in well-drained soil. These asters prefer full sun in cool-summer areas or partial shade in warmer areas. Prune plants lightly after the first flush of blooms to encourage a second flush of flowers late in the season.
