Cultivation method:
For indoor sowing, start 8-12 weeks before the last frost date. Sow seeds 1/4″ (6 mm) deep in a potting mix, and maintain a temperature of 70-80°F (21-26°C) for best germination. Once plants are 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm), transplant them into individual 4″ (10 cm) pots and grow them on at 60-70°F (15-21°C). Harden off plants before transplanting outdoors once all danger of frost has passed.
For direct sowing, wait until after the risk of frost, then sow seeds in a well-drained, loose or sandy soil. Space plants 24 to 36 inches (60 to 90 cm) apart to allow them to develop well. Shoots can be thinned when they reach 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 cm). Harvest them by cutting to encourage new growth, allowing up to 3 to 5 harvests.
Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, and apply a thin layer of mulch to preserve moisture and protect breeds from heat stress.
