Sow seeds indoors about 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Use a peat moss-based growing mix for quick germination (10-14 days) at a temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C). When seedlings are 1.5 inches (4 cm), transplant them into individual pots, lowering the temperature to 60-65°F (15-18°C).
Harden them off before transplanting them into open ground or containers, spacing them 60 cm apart.
Plants require full sun exposure, constant watering at the base, and crop rotation to limit disease. Avoid composting diseased plants. Apply straw mulch to protect fruit and conserve moisture.
