Cultivation method

Early Jalapeño peppers like heat and grow best in full sun , in rich, well-drained soil that has been amended with compost . Start seedlings indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost , then transplant outdoors once night temperatures are above 54°F (12°C) . Plants should be spaced 16 to 20 inches apart for good air circulation and optimum growth. Regular, but not excessive, watering is essential to promote firm fruit and prevent water stress. The first peppers are harvested green at around 65 days and can be left on the plant to redden and become softer .

Use and benefits

The jalapeño is a kitchen staple , perfect for slicing fresh into tacos and salads, stuffing and grilling, marinating in escabeche, or smoking to make chipotle peppers . With its moderate heat , it adds a nice intensity to dishes without being overly spicy. It is also rich in capsaicin, vitamin C, and antioxidants , contributing to a healthy and stimulating diet.

With its fast growth, great versatility and balanced taste , the 'Early Jalapeño' pepper is a perfect choice for all gardeners who love spicy flavors.
