Cultivation method

Spaghetti squash grows in full sun , in rich, well-drained soil amended with compost . Sow directly in the ground after the last frost, when the soil reaches 18°C , or start seedlings indoors 3 to 4 weeks before transplanting . Plant 3 seeds per pocket , spaced 90 to 120 cm apart, then keep the most vigorous plant. Mulch at the base of the plants helps to conserve moisture and limits competition from weeds. Water regularly, especially during the flowering and fruiting period. Harvest when the rind turns golden yellow and hard to the touch , before the first frost.

Use and benefits

After cooking (baked, steamed or boiled), the flesh of spaghetti squash breaks down into light and tasty filaments , perfect for replacing pasta and accompanying all kinds of sauces. Low in calories and rich in fiber, vitamins B6 and C, as well as antioxidants , it is an excellent choice for a healthy and balanced diet.

Thanks to its generous production, its long shelf life and its original culinary use , spaghetti squash is a sure bet in the vegetable garden .
