Cultivation method

Black Cherry tomatoes are easily grown in full sun , in rich, well-drained soil that has been amended with compost . Seeds should be started indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost , then the young plants are transplanted into the ground after nighttime temperatures exceed 10°C . As this is an indeterminate variety, it requires staking or trellising to support its long stems laden with clusters of fruit.

A spacing of 50 to 70 cm between plants allows good air circulation, thus reducing the risk of diseases. Watering should be regular but moderate , avoiding wetting the foliage to prevent the appearance of mildew. Mulch around the base of the plant helps to conserve moisture and protects the roots from temperature variations. Harvesting begins in about 70 days , when the fruits take on their dark brown color with reddish highlights and they detach easily from the stem.

Use and benefits

With its intense, sweet and slightly smoky flavor , the Black Cherry tomato is perfect for colorful salads, bruschetta and cheese platters . Its deep taste also enhances hot dishes, especially when roasted in the oven with a drizzle of olive oil and aromatic herbs . It pairs particularly well with fresh basil, goat cheese or grilled meats . Thanks to its high content of antioxidants and lycopene , it also contributes to a healthy and balanced diet.

Growing this tomato means treating yourself to a variety that is productive, aesthetic and full of flavor , perfect for those looking for an unusual cherry to enjoy all summer long.
