Beetroot 'Detroit Dark Red' (Beta vulgaris) – Offered by Ferme Tourne-Sol

'Detroit Dark Red' beetroot is an heirloom variety known for its uniform dark red flesh , sweet flavor, and tender texture . It produces smooth, round roots that are perfect for raw, roasted, canned, or juicing . Its lush green foliage is also edible and flavorful , making it great stir-frying or in salads.

Sow directly into the ground as soon as the soil has warmed up (10°C minimum), in rows spaced 25 cm apart.

Recipe idea: Roasted beets with honey and thyme

• 3 'Detroit Dark Red' beets
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp honey
• 1 tsp fresh thyme
• Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Peel and cut the beets into quarters.
  3. Mix with oil, honey, thyme, salt and pepper.
  4. Arrange on a baking sheet and roast for 30 to 40 minutes , until tender.
