Description

Radicchio (Treviso) 'di Treviso' from the seed company Gaia is a variety of wild chicory prized for its deep red leaves with white veins.

This annual plant, about 20 cm high, is ideal for adding a touch of elegance and a slightly bitter and spicy flavour to your recipes. Perfectly adapted to cool climates, it thrives in well-drained soils and in full sun exposure, offering quality harvests throughout the season.

Spread: Compact and dense port
Plant height: 20 cm
Quantity per pack: 200 to 300 seeds
Companion plants: Lettuce, spinach, celery
Enemy plants: Weeds such as dandelions and knotweeds (competition for nutrients)

Cultivation method:

Radicchio 'di Treviso' prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Sow directly in the ground or start your seedlings indoors about 4 to 6 weeks before planting out. Maintain good irrigation for optimal development, being careful not to soak the soil. Cool temperatures help intensify its red color and sweeten its flavor.

Harvest :

Cut young leaves for immediate consumption. Roots can be harvested after four months of growth for various culinary uses. Note that the flavor diminishes when stored or dried, so prefer fresh consumption.

Tasty tip:

Elevate radicchio 'Di Treviso' by roasting it in the oven. Quarter the heads, brush with olive oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper and rosemary. Roast at 200°C for 15 minutes for a crunchy, flavourful accompaniment, perfect with grilled meats or roasted vegetables.

An ideal choice for lovers of refined flavors and for those wishing to cultivate an Italian heritage in their garden!
