Sow seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost, 0.5 to 1 cm deep in moist potting soil. Maintain a temperature of 24 to 28 °C for germination in 7 to 14 days. Transplant seedlings outdoors after all danger of frost, spacing them 30 to 45 cm apart, in rich, well-drained soil and in full sun.

Water regularly to maintain moderate humidity and mulch around the plants to conserve water. The shiny black fruits can be harvested for their ornamental beauty, or you can wait until they turn bright red for a milder, fully developed flavor. These peppers can be eaten fresh, dried, or used in sauces and marinades.
