Common Milkweed
The common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca), offered by Northern Wildflowers, is a vital perennial for ecosystems. It serves as a host plant for monarch butterflies and provides abundant nectar for bees and other pollinators. From July to August, its fragrant flowers bring color and life to gardens. While invaluable to wildlife, its toxic sap makes it less suitable for areas near grazing pastures. For a safer alternative, consider swamp milkweed or butterfly milkweed.
