Classic Tender Sweetness

Nantes Carrots (Coreless) (Daucus carota sativa), offered by OSC Seeds

Nantes carrots are a heritage classic known for their smooth, cylindrical roots in vibrant orange. Measuring up to 15 cm long and 4 cm wide, they are tender, crisp, and almost coreless, even when harvested late. Their high moisture content makes them perfect for juicing. Described in 1885, this variety remains a gardener’s favorite.

How to Grow:

Sow directly in loose, deep soil once temperatures reach 7.5°C. Mix seeds with sand for even sowing at a depth of 7–15 mm. Space rows 45–60 cm apart and stagger planting every 5 days for successive harvests. Keep the seedbed moist during the 2-week germination period. Thin seedlings to 5 cm apart in early growth stages. Avoid nitrogen-heavy fertilizers, weed regularly, and maintain even watering. Harvest when roots show vibrant color.

Nantes carrots provide a versatile, delicious harvest, perfect for juicing or fresh dishes, and bring timeless charm to your garden.
