Lettuce is a cool weather crop that loves sun and grows best in organic, well-drained soil. Sow as soon as the soil can be worked in spring, then every two weeks thereafter to ensure a continuous supply. Sow about 3mm deep in rows 45cm apart.
Consistent moisture throughout the growing season is imperative for success. Harvest lettuce by pulling the entire plant or cutting the leaves off the main stem at least 1 inch above the base – this will allow the plant to produce new leaves. Germination occurs in 7 to 10 days.
