Description

Organic Spaghetti Squash 'Orangeti' ( Cucurbita pepo ) – offered by Gaia, an early and productive variety

Spaghetti squash 'Orangeti F1' is a fast-maturing hybrid variety , distinguished by its bright orange skin and stringy flesh , forming delicate vegetable "spaghetti" when cooked. Sweeter and more flavorful than traditional spaghetti squash, it is ideal for a healthy alternative to pasta and pairs perfectly with a variety of sauces and dressings.

With its high yield , this squash produces fruits of 1.5 to 2 kg , perfect for family vegetable gardens.

Did you know?

Unlike other squashes, spaghetti squash does not puree after cooking. Its unique stringy texture makes it particularly popular in low-carb or gluten-free diets, while also providing an excellent source of fiber and vitamins A and C.

Spread : Trailing plant requiring space
Plant height : 30 to 50 cm
Quantity per pack : ± 20 seeds
Companion plants : Corn, climbing beans, peas, radishes, sunflower, parsley, celery, buckwheat, nasturtium, marigold, oregano

Cultivation method

Sow directly into the ground in late May or early June, when the soil reaches 25°C . For an earlier harvest, start the plants indoors 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost , then transplant them once the soil has warmed up .

To speed up germination , soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours and scarify lightly before sowing. Space plants 16 to 18 inches apart , with 24 to 36 inches between rows , to ensure good air circulation and prevent disease.

This squash likes rich, well-drained soils and full sun . Regular watering is recommended, while avoiding excess moisture at foliage level.

Harvesting and conservation

The fruits are ready to be harvested when their skin is hard and difficult to mark with the fingernail . The spot on the ground changes color , going from light yellow to cream or orange .

To avoid the risk of rotting, it is recommended to cut the squash leaving 5 cm of stem . Then let it ripen in a dry and warm place for 1 to 2 weeks before storing them.

Once well dried, the squashes will keep for several months in a cool place (10-12°C), with good air circulation .
