Tomatoes are rich in lycopene , a powerful antioxidant with recognized benefits for cardiovascular health and cellular protection . Each color of tomato contains different concentrations of nutrients:

  • Reds are rich in lycopene.
  • Yellows and oranges contain more beta-carotene.
  • Purple and black berries are rich in anthocyanins, as are blueberries.
  • Green ones often have a more pronounced acidity, ideal for salads.

With this blend, you enjoy a complete nutritious cocktail , while experiencing a gourmet and visually vibrant garden .

Cultivation method

This tomato mix requires careful cultivation , but in return offers a generous and varied harvest . Seeds should be started indoors about 6 to 8 weeks before planting outdoors , at temperatures between 70 and 90°F (21 and 32°C) . Cold stratification for a few days before sowing can encourage germination .

Sow seeds 3 to 6 mm (1/8 to 1/4") deep , in a light, well-drained potting soil. Once the seedlings have developed, gradually harden them by reducing watering and exposing them to outdoor conditions for a week before transplanting .

When planting in the garden, space plants 2 to 3 feet apart and leave 4 to 6 feet between rows to promote good air circulation. Strong staking is necessary , as these indeterminate varieties will continue to grow and produce fruit until the first frost.

Regular watering is recommended, removing excess moisture through good drainage to prevent fungal diseases. It is advisable to water at the base of the plants to avoid wetting the foliage and to mulch the soil to maintain moisture and limit the growth of weeds.

Harvesting and storage

Tomatoes should be harvested when they reach their final color and a slightly soft texture to the touch . They will continue to ripen after picking if stored at room temperature , 12-21°C with 95% relative humidity .

If tomatoes are still green before the first frost, place them in a warm place to speed up their ripening or use them to prepare pickled or fried green tomatoes .
