Cultivation method

- Soak the seeds in warm water for 12 to 24 hours before sowing, and lightly scarify the hull to improve germination.
- Sow directly in open ground 1 to 2 weeks after the last frost , when the soil temperature reaches 23°C .
- Or start indoors 4 weeks before planting date , to speed up harvest.
- Sow 1cm (1/2") deep , spacing plants 60-90cm (24-36") apart and rows 150cm (60") apart.
- Mulch the soil to retain moisture and prevent the fruit from directly touching the soil.
- Regular but moderate watering , and reduction of watering at maturity to intensify the sweet flavor of the fruit.
Harvesting and conservation
- Harvest when the skin turns pale yellow and the fruit gives off a sweet, slightly floral scent .
- Unlike other melons, it continues to ripen after harvest , developing even more flavor.
- Keeps for up to 4 weeks in the cold , ideal for prolonged consumption in summer .
- Avoid refrigerating for too long , which alters its crisp texture.
