The 'Sons and Daughters' eggplant is an heirloom variety bred by Telsing Andrews of Aster Lane Edibles . It is distinguished by its long, slender fruit , deep black calyx and creamy flesh with exceptional flavour. It produces abundantly , although the size of the fruit naturally varies, a characteristic typical of this variety.

Ideal for short-season climates, it thrives both in the ground and in pots. Its optimal development occurs under warm and sunny temperatures.

Eggplant is rich in antioxidants , including nasunin , a compound that helps protect cells. Its tender texture and low bitterness make it an excellent choice for grilling, stews, and Asian stir-fries .

Cultivation method

Sow indoors 8 to 12 weeks before the last frost in a warm substrate (23-30°C). Transplant outdoors when night temperatures exceed 10°C and the plants reach 15-20 cm . Prefer full sun exposure, rich, loose and well-drained soil, and regular watering without excess. To encourage good growth and prevent branches from breaking under the weight of the fruit, staking is recommended.

Harvesting and conservation

Eggplants should be harvested when they are shiny and firm . A dull skin or a visible fingerprint indicates overripeness. They will store at 10-12°C with 90% humidity for up to a week .
