Cultivation method
Sowing can be done indoors in early spring to advance flowering, or directly in the open ground after the last frosts .
Sow 3 mm deep , spacing the plants 30 to 45 cm apart to allow them to develop well. Cosmos 'Bright Lights' prefers a light, well-drained soil and full sun exposure . Too much fertilizer will promote foliage to the detriment of flowers .
Harvest and maintenance
To encourage continued flowering, remove faded flowers regularly . It is also advisable to sow successively every 3 weeks to extend flowering until autumn.
✔ Cut the stem as low as possible , at a strong node. This stimulates the plant to produce more flower stems and prolongs flowering.
✔ If a stem bears several flowers at different heights , favor cutting just above a lateral bud , to allow the secondary flowers to continue to bloom.
✔ Best time to cut: early morning or late afternoon, when the plant is well hydrated. Immediately submerge the stems in cool water to maximize their vase life.
