Chinese Cabbage 'Prize Choi' likes moist but well-drained soil, and a sunny exposure with a slight tolerance to shade. Regular watering is essential to prevent it from going to seed too quickly under water stress.
Once seedlings are well established, thin to 6" (15cm) apart to ensure vigorous growth. A light mulch around the seedlings will help conserve moisture and reduce weeds .
Harvesting and conservation
- Young Leaves: When the plant reaches 7cm (3") , you can start harvesting a few leaves at a time , allowing for continued regrowth and an extended harvest.
- Whole head: For a single harvest, wait until the cabbage reaches full maturity between 30 and 50 days after sowing. Then cut the head off at ground level.
- Storage: Store whole cabbage in the refrigerator for 7 to 10 days , wrapped in a damp cloth or perforated bag.
