Cornflower is an iconic wildflower , prized for its vibrant hues of deep blue , as well as shades of pink, purple and white . Its abundant blooms brighten gardens all summer long , attracting a wide variety of pollinators and beneficial insects .

In addition to being a durable cut flower , it dries very well while retaining its color. Drought-resistant , it thrives without much maintenance, even in poor soils.

Cultivation method

Sow seeds 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost indoors or directly in the ground after the last frost . The seeds require a period of darkness to germinate , so be sure to cover them lightly with soil .

Replant the plants in spring , in well-drained soil , in full sun , for more vigorous flowering.

Harvesting and conservation

Harvest open flowers for fresh bouquets or drying . For prolonged blooms, remove faded flowers regularly.

Flowers can be air dried , hanging upside down, in a dark, dry place.
