'Danvers 126' carrot is a reliable heirloom variety , prized for its thick, uniform roots , disease resistance and ability to thrive in heavy soils . Its intense dark orange and sweet flavor make it an excellent carrot for fresh eating, preserving, juicing and soups .

It is also highly resistant to cracking , making it a perfect choice for a long-lasting and abundant harvest. Thanks to its robust growth, this carrot is ideal for home gardens and cool climate crops .

Did you know?

Danvers 126 carrots were once bred specifically for clay soils , where they adapt better than longer varieties. Their high beta-carotene content makes them an excellent vegetable for vision and skin health.

Spread : Conical root reaching 15-18 cm long
Plant height : 30 to 40 cm
Quantity per pack : ± 500 seeds
Companion plants : Alliums, rosemary, sage, beans, lettuce, peas, peppers, tomato
Enemy plants : Coriander, dill, parsnips

Cultivation method

Sowing should be done directly in open ground as soon as the soil can be worked , because carrots do not tolerate transplantation well .

For a continuous harvest , it is advisable to make successive sowings from spring to mid-summer . A well-loosened soil without stones will promote well-formed and smooth roots.

Light but regular watering is recommended, as water stress can result in irregular growth or split roots .

Harvesting and conservation

Carrots should be harvested when they reach their full colour and optimum flavour . In summer they can be left in the ground for up to 3 weeks after they have matured , and in winter they can be protected under mulch and harvested gradually .

For optimal conservation , place them in a cool, humid place , or keep them in a sand silo to extend their shelf life.
