Cultivation method:
- Sowing indoors: Sow seeds in early February , about 10 to 12 weeks before the last frost .
- Germination: It takes 7 to 14 days , at an optimum temperature of 25 to 30°C .
- Transplanting: When the seedlings have 4 to 6 true leaves , transplant them into larger pots before acclimating them to the outdoors.
- Planting in open ground or in a pot: After the last frost, space the plants 40 to 50 cm apart in rich, well-drained soil. In pots, use a container of at least 7 liters .
- Maintenance: Water regularly without soaking the soil. Fertilize every 2 to 3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
- Harvest: About 90 to 100 days after pollination , the fruits turn their bright yellow color , indicating that they are ready to harvest.
Pot culture: ideal for temperate climates
The Mme. Jeanette grows very well in pots , allowing it to be brought inside in the fall and thus prolong the harvest. With full sun exposure (6 to 8 hours per day) and good fertilization, it will produce a good quantity of fruit even in a small space .
