The Devil's Tongue Orange is a pepper that looks as spectacular as it tastes. Native to Pennsylvania, USA , it gets its name from its elongated, bumpy shape , reminiscent of a flaming tongue , and its bright orange color when ripe . With an intensity ranging from 125,000 to 325,000 SHU , it is reserved for fans of hot peppers , but its sweet and fruity flavor also makes it a great option for hot sauces, marinades, and processing into powder .

The robust and prolific plant , reaching up to 90 cm in height , produces a large quantity of fruits of about 7 cm , which change from bright green to a deep orange when ripe. Very easy to grow , it flourishes both in the ground and in pots , provided it is exposed to full sun and benefits from a warm climate.

Cultivation method:

  1. Sowing indoors: Sow seeds in mid-February , about 10 to 12 weeks before the last frost .
  2. Germination: It takes 10 to 20 days , at an ideal temperature between 25 and 30°C .
  3. Transplanting: When the seedlings have 4 to 6 true leaves , transplant them into larger pots before acclimating them to the outdoors.
  4. Planting in open ground or in a pot: After the last frost, space the plants 40 to 50 cm apart in rich, well-drained soil. In pots, use a container of at least 7 liters .
  5. Maintenance: Water regularly without soaking the soil, fertilize every 2 to 3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer. This variety loves heat and sun .
  6. Harvest: About 90 to 110 days after sowing , the fruits turn bright orange , a sign that they are ready to harvest.
